Insurance

Fully comprehensive Motorhome Insurance starts at about €350 p.a. Some companies charge more for vehicles above 3.500kg and all add an extra charge for each €1000 of value above a valuation of between €70,000 - €80,000. Some also require an approved tracker device to be fitted above a certain value. Each company includes some level of Accident and Breakdown cover for most of Europe, but there are some notable exceptions in relation to countries covered while motorways with franchised breakdown services may be excluded, so you should always check your actual cover before accepting a quotation.

Driving Licence

You'll need to make sure your driving licence has the right vehicle category for you to drive a motorhome. Drivers with a B licence (Standard Car Driving Licence) can drive a motorhome weighing up to 3, 500 kg MTPLM. While Drivers with a C1 licence or over can drive a vehicle from 3,500 kg to 7,500 kg MTPLM/MAM (maximum technically permissable laden mass/ maximum authorised mass). For all drivers of vehicles over 7,500 kg MTPLM a full C driving licence is required.. Be aware that in this country speed limits for Motorhomes change above 3,5 tons when goods vehicle limits apply.   Europe is generally the same as the Republic, but some exceptions apply, the nearest being in the U.K. and France.
